The below are part of the The new Scrap Metal Dealers Act (SMDA) and are government law. No Cash for Scrap and Photo ID & Proof of Address will be required in ALL scrap metal yards.
No Cash Payment for Scrap Metal
From the 3rd of December 2012; all scrap metal yards will no longer be allowed to pay Cash for Scrap Metal.
Royal Docks Metal customers will be able to receive payment by either CHEQUE or BANK TRANSFER. (Bank Transfers are same day payments and may take up to 2 hours to show in your account.)
Photo ID & Proof of Address Required
Scrap Metal Laws changed again on the 1st of December 2013. New Laws state that we will NOT be able to purchase your metals unless we have a copy of your;
- Current Great Britain or Northern Ireland photo driving licence
OR
- A valid UK or EEA passport or a valid UK biometric immigration document
AND
- A letter issued not more than three months before your visit this can be a bank or building society statement; a credit or debit card statement; a Council Tax demand letter or statement; or a utility bill (but no a mobile telephone bill).
Note: Proof of Address Letters will need to be replaced 3 months after the issue date of the letter.
